Astha Choudhury Smashes Best Indian Time in Women's 200m Butterfly

SINGAPORE — Indian swimming sensation Astha Choudhury has etched her name into the history books once again, setting a new Best Indian Time in the Women’s 200m Butterfly.

Competing at the Singapore National Swimming Championships, Choudhury clocked a blistering 2:17.09, effectively shaving over a second off the previous mark. This performance surpasses the former best of 2:18.18, which was set by Apeksha Fernandes during the FINA World Junior Swimming Championships in 2022.

The Road to the Record

Choudhury, who hails from Assam and represents the Railways Sports Promotion Board (RSPB), has been on a dominant streak in the butterfly events. Her latest achievement in Singapore further solidifies her position as India’s premier female butterfly swimmer.

Impact on Indian Swimming

This milestone is a significant boost for Indian aquatics on the international stage. While “national records” are officially ratified during the Senior National Aquatic Championships, “best Indian times” clocked at international meets like Singapore serve as the true benchmark for the country’s progress.

Astha’s consistent improvement—from breaking the 100m butterfly record in 2022 to this latest feat—marks her as a key athlete to watch as the 2026 international season unfolds.

“Astha’s performance is a testament to her grit and the evolving standards of Indian swimming. To better a record by over a second at this level is a massive statement.
