Sajan Prakash Locks in CWG 2026 Spot with Silver in Singapore
SINGAPORE — Veteran Indian swimmer Sajan Prakash has officially secured his ticket to the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The two-time Olympian delivered a powerhouse performance at the Singapore National Age Group Swimming Championships, clinching a silver medal in the men’s 200m butterfly.
Clocking in at 1:57.09s, Prakash successfully breached the qualification standard of 1:57.12 set by the Swimming Federation of India (SFI). He finished just behind gold medalist Kuan Hung-Wang of Chinese Taipei (1:56.18s).
A Champion’s Consistency
At 33, the Kerala-born swimmer continues to be the backbone of Indian aquatics. His performance in Singapore is a testament to his longevity in a grueling discipline like the 200m butterfly.
The Mark: His timing was a mere 0.71 seconds off his own national record of 1:56.38.
More Medals: Prakash didn’t stop at silver; he also bagged a bronze in the 200m Individual Medley (IM) with a time of 2:05.64.
The Mission: “With the qualification secured, my entire focus shifts to bringing home a medal from Glasgow,” Prakash stated following the meet.
